A non-government organization made up of illustrious individuals from Ekiti State; popularly known as Ekiti-Kete Canada, has been enthused about the revolution going on in the university education in Nigeria of which, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), remains their toast. Consequent upon this motivation and recognition, the organization has on Saturday, July 2, 2011, donated over 500 computer books in furtherance of its plan to support the Founder, Aare Afe Babalola, in his unprecedented move to redefine the course of university education in Nigeria and by extension, Africa.

In the address made by the organization, “The Ekiti Kete Canada wishes to note with joy that the establishment of a well befitting University at Ado Ekiti by Aare Afe Babalola has been a great honour to all the people of Ekiti and Nigeria as a whole. It is on record that, the university, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), can compete structurally with most of the world renowned Universities. Thus, in appreciation of his good job and contribution towards the development of Ekiti State, the Vice President of Ekiti Kete Canada, Mrs. Ruth Adewolu, has been mandated to present on behalf of Ekiti Kete Canada, a set of computer text books to his Institution, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD). This is just the beginning, the sky is the limit.”

Commenting on the donation made by Ekiti Kete Canada, the University Librarian, Mrs. A.O. Oke said that, “the gesture was greatly appreciated; that such books would help students studying Computer Science, and as well aid research”. She promised that the books would be well stocked and utilized meticulously, and that each time the books are used, the donor would be remembered.

Reacting to the honour done him and the University, Aare Afe Babalola said that, he was grateful to God that this is happening at this time in our life time.  He acknowledged the provision of the Computer Books by Ekiti-Kete Canada. According to him, “the materials would be of immense benefits to the students and lecturers”. The Founder and President Emeritus, Aare Afe Babalola, also used the opportunity to call on Ekiti State sons and daughters to embrace unity, and also use their education to develop the state positively.

In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Prof. Sidi Osho applauded Ekiti Kete Canada for the books donated; also used the forum to call on Ekiti Kete Canada to endow in Students’ Scholarship and a continuous partnership with the Institution.
