The maiden Certificate Programme was declared open by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael Ajisafe, who adduced the reasons and emphasized the benefits inherent in the programme which is an off-shoot of the B.Sc. Degree in the high profile programme.

According to Ajisafe, the programme is a novel initiative which aims at developing human capacity of upwardly mobile, mid-career adults who are hungry and thirsty for knowledge to upgrade and sharpen their professional skills with the latest tools, techniques and methodologies in both the Public and Private Sectors of the economy.

But why a Certificate Programme in Social Justice for members of the Nigeria Police Force? Ajisafe provided an immediate answer when he said: “today’s society is fraught with frictions, hostilities and various forms and shapes and shades of conflicts between man and man, between man and the State and between one state and another or between some states and the Federal Government”.

He added “the programme has therefore become very imperative and germane in equipping and assisting law enforcement agents in dousing the ever-mounting frictions, misunderstandings and conflicts in the society in order to prevent the Hobbesian state of anarchy and cataclysm”.

To demonstrate the import of the programme, the cream-de-la-cream of the society like the representatives of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his The State of Osun counterpart, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Alhaji Yakubu Mohamed, who stood in for the former Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd) as well as representatives of Immigrations, Customs, Civil Defence and Prison Services.

In his contribution, the Founder and President Emeritus of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola.
