Table Tennis

Table tennis, also known as ping-pong, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small solid rackets. The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, the rules are generally as follows: players must allow a ball played toward them to bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side at least once. A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. Spinning the ball alters its trajectory and limits an opponent’s options, giving the hitter a great advantage.

Table tennis is governed by the worldwide organization International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), founded in 1926. ITTF currently includes 226 member associations. The table tennis official rules are specified in the ITTF handbook. Table tennis has been an Olympic sport since 1988, with several event categories. From 1988 until 2004, these were men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles. Since 2008, a team event has been played instead of the doubles. The game has been designed to allow students to train and become a start in Afe Babalola University, there are experts to train the students and to develop their skill level from beginners to professional.

BENEFIT JOINING THE TEAM

Scientific evidence and medical experts around the world acknowledge that recreational table tennis increases concentration and alertness, stimulates brain function, helps with the development of tactical thinking skills, hand/eye coordination, provides aerobic exercise and social and recreational interaction. The most important benefit  in Table Tennis is to consistently hit the ping pong ball on the table tennis table. Once you learn how to control the ping pong ball and make sure the ping pong ball remains on the table, the rest of the game becomes easy.

SCHEDULE OF TRAINING

  • Monday & Wednesday – 4pm- 7pm
  • Saturday- 7am- 12noon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE BEFORE JOINING THE TEAM.

The equipment needed to participate in a game of ping pong is similar to a shrunken down version of tennis. Table tennis is played indoors and includes just three pieces of equipment to participate. All you need is a paddle, a ball, and a table to play on! All the additional pieces of equipment are completely optional which the school have tried enough to make all these available. But for the benefit of having upper hand whenever we go out for competition, I implore the Director to get the school team at least four (4) competitive ROYAL WRB 3-star bat.
