The ACU provides a range of opportunities to engage with like-minded individuals and universities to learn about, discuss, and tackle the key issues in higher education today. Below is a round-up of such opportunities, for your benefit.

Tell your students about our Commonwealth Summer School bursaries

The ACU Commonwealth Summer School is an opportunity for talented university students from around the Commonwealth to come together for an exciting week of expert lectures, group work, field trips, skills development, and social events.

The 2017 School will be hosted in August by Bath Spa University in the UK with the theme 'Creating greener narratives through the environmental arts and humanities'. The event will explore interrelationships between humans and other living beings, and between cultural practices and environmental problems – and will look at how these can be examined through different academic disciplines and creative arts.

Full and partial bursaries and a reduced registration fee rate are available for students from member universities. We hope to welcome participants from as wide a range of member institutions as possible.

Please encourage students at your institution to apply. The closing date for applications is 15 February 2017.

Get involved in the ACU's new initiative on universities, faith and respect

ACU member universities are invited to participate in our new initiative on faith and mutual respect – an ambitious exercise to identify ways in which universities with a strong faith mission can develop practical means of promoting respect, understanding, and objectivity among staff, students, and their local communities.

The programme draws on the ACU’s uniquely diverse membership, and our aim is to develop a public library of good practice from throughout the Commonwealth, as well as to facilitate staff and student exchanges between institutions from different faith traditions. Findings will contribute both to the work of participating institutions, and to wider international debates on the role of universities in creating open-minded graduates and moderate societies.

Ideas, examples, and expressions of support are welcome. Participation is open to all ACU member universities.

Have you read the latest Bulletin?

The Bulletin is the ACU’s tri-annual magazine for its members. Our latest issue, published in November, includes articles on the undergraduate curriculum and how it can best meet the needs and expectations of a new generation, the ways in which universities can promote entrepreneurship and a culture of enterprise, how the rate of return on investment is calculated for higher education, and lessons learned from DRUSSA – a five-year programme that sought to help universities in Africa improve their capacity to get key research into use.

Limited spaces left for our Strategic Management Programme – sign up now!

Applications are still open to take part in the 2017 ACU Strategic Management Programme – this is a unique opportunity for participating universities to compare and improve their key management processes through identifying areas for change, assisting in setting targets for improvement, and determining actions to help achieve new goals.

This year, the three topics for evaluation will be: research management, financial management, and managing human resources (within a cultural change agenda). The face-to-face workshop will be hosted by North-West University, South Africa, from 28-30 August 2017.
