Imagine Cup is the most prestigious global student technology program and competition that provides opportunities for students across all disciplines to team up and use their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications, games and integrates solutions that can change the way we live, work and play.  The competition is divided into three categories; Games, Innovation and World Citizenship categories.  The World Citizenship category requires competitors to create a solution that solves the world’s toughest problems using Microsoft technologies.
Team LifeWatch is made up of students from Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, mentored by three academic staff members. The team entered in for the World Citizenship category of the competition with an elegant management and supervision solution for asthmatics.
The students comprise of three students from the Department of Computer Science and a Mechanical Engineering Student, namely, Adeyemo Oluwaseun Kayode, Raymond Obinaju, Sobola Timilehin David, and Ahwin Kevin respectively.
The staff members who have been mentoring these brilliant students are Mr. Daniel Ale (Computer Engineering), Mr. Bayo Ogundipe (Computer Science), and Mr. Mobolaji Tenibiaje (Computer Science).
The solution called AsthmaVisor is geared towards a more efficient and cost effective way of supervising Asthmatic patients, especially children.  It is made up of a wristband embedded with electronic sensors, which is connected to a windows phone application.

All asthma patients, irrespective of age, can use the device.  The aim is to detect and alert a patient about present physiological and environmental conditions, which might trigger an asthma attack. It then invokes a quick response by sending a Smart Messaging Service (SMS) to registered emergency contacts.  The application also displays daily tips and keeps a log of patient attack history.  This ensures constant consciousness by the patient and adequate management of the disease, which can lead to reduced mortality caused by the disease.  Since it is a global problem, the wristband and application can be used in every country.
Team LifeWatch has competed from the preliminary stage, through to the Nigerian national finals, where they competed with institutions such as LAUTECH, FUTA, and UNILAG. ABUAD won the Nationals conveniently, hence qualifying for the World Semi-Finals. The winners of the World Semi-finals round of the 2015 Imagine Cup, which included 150 teams from 64 countries, have been announced by Microsoft. Team LifeWatch (ABUAD) went head-to-head against teams representing countries like Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, Angola, Uganda, Algeria, Morocco and Burkina Faso in Africa to win this stage, thereby, representing Nigeria and Africa at the Grand Finale.

The judges, made up of Microsoft Field Testing Engineers (FTEs) and external Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs), have evaluated all the projects and found some very impressive work.  33 teams out of 150 teams, including Team LifeWatch have now been selected from all entries to compete at the World Finals.
