Aregbesola commends ABUAD

The Governor of The State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has commended Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), for its maiden Certificate Programme in Social Justice which commenced last week Monday, thereby initiating a platform for the actualization and realization equitable justice and a well-ordered society in Nigeria.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Aregbesola said that through Programme, the four-year old university is contributing to the important requirement of establishing a popular notion of social justice that everybody can relate with and accept as public standard of assessing what is socially just and acceptable.

Besides, he submitted that the university is also contributing to building good leadership at various levels in the country, which among other others are the fundamental issues that must be settled before Nigeria can hope to attain the status of John Rawls’  ‘well-ordered society’.

He lamented that one of the fundamental problems of Nigeria’s political system is poor foundation of justness, a development which constitutes one of the critical ways for Nigeria to tackle its political problems as a nation and begin to anchor policies and processes in justice and fairness.

He gave kudos to the Nigeria Police for sponsoring the programme thereby giving vent to the belief that the civil police in any civilized, democratic society are a major public institution for the realization of social justice. He however regretted that the police in Nigeria have not been doing enough in the areas of realization, actualization and achievement of social justice.

According to him, the programme is a source of hope in many respects for Nigeria towards building a society where social justice would be actual experience for the people rather an ideal vision.
