Police Chiefs attend Certificate course in ABUAD.

Shortly after breakfast today, Monday, February 10, 2014, the maiden Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD’s) Certificate Programme in Social Justice will commence at the university’s campus in Ado-Ekiti.

The Programme which is sponsored by the Nigeria Police is an off-shoot of the university’s innovative B.Sc. degree in Social Justice specially designed for the university is programmed to ensure absence or a drastic reduction in frictions conflicts in the society to the comfiture of all.

The Police team which will be led by the Hon. Minister for Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), will be received by the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael O. Ajisafe, his management team, top members of the Ekiti State Executive Council, the Judiciary and the royalty as well as the academia.

The maiden Certificate Programme is part of the university’s determined efforts to ensure a veritable nexus between the ‘town and gown’ and particularly to ensure that the Nigerian society is a better place for all to live in.

The programme is a novel initiative which aims at developing human capacity of upwardly mobile mid-career adults who are thirsty and hungry for knowledge to upgrade and sharpen their professional skills with the latest tools, techniques and methodology in both the public and private sectors of the economy.

The Police High Command will benefit from the pool of resources and Faculty that have combined to make the four-year old institution a Centre of Excellence that has been acknowledged nationally and internationally which embraces novel approaches to teaching, learning and research as well as public service.

Participants who will be made to go through intensive class work and field (project) work will be treated to such issues as The Concept of Human Rights, Justice, Security, Freedom, Equality and Social Justice, Relationship between Human Rights, Justice, Security, Freedom, Equality and Social Justice.

Others are An Overview of the Legal Framework for Combating Terrorism in Nigeria, Highlights of Selected Legislations on Terrorism and Related Offences like the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011, Act No. 11 and the Role of the Police Force and Civilians in attaining a Crime and Terrorism-free society.

Yet others are Community Policing in Nigeria and Effective Security Implementation and Attainment of Social Justice in Nigeria: Challenges and Solutions.

Members of Faculty will include erudite and seasoned scholars of international repute like Representative of the University’s Board of Trustees (BOT) and former Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Olatunji Orubuloye, a robust IT professional, Prof. Gabriel M.M. Obi, the Director, ABUAD Consult, Prof. Samuel Igbatayo and the Ag. Provost, College of Law, Ass. Prof. Smaranda E. Olarinde among many others.
